Scotch Scones

1/3 cup Shortening
1/2 cup Oats -- uncooked
2/3 cup Milk
1 tablespoon Baking powder
3/4 teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 cups Sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup Currants
1/4 cup Sugar

Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into mixing bowl. Mix in shortening until the mix looks like crumbs. Add in oats & currants.

Mix in milk; stir until dry ingredients are moist. Roll out on lightly floured board or canvas. Knead gently a few seconds. Flatten out to 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut with shaped cutter. Brush lightly with melted butter; sprinkle with sugar. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake in hot oven (425 F.) for 15 mins. Serve hot.
